Why Google matters to your business

Some companies have a history so tangled up with the internet's own that the two are hard to separate. There are plenty of search engines, true, but Google is far and away the best known. That is not flattery, just fact. Here is why it matters to your business.

Google Business Profile

When a customer looks for your business online, Google helps them find it through Google Business Profile, which brought together the old Google Places for Business, Google listings and Google+ business pages. It gives customers everything they need to know about your company in one place.

Create an account and you show up in search with the details customers actually look for: opening hours, the days you trade and your location straight on Google Maps. All of it free.

Signing in is all it takes to update the address, phone numbers, website and opening hours, which is what helps customers find you and get in touch.

Beyond appearing in Google search and on Maps, you can reply to reviews, post photos of products or special offers, and add or edit your business details. You can also build a Google business site, putting your company online with photos and details in a presentation that looks genuinely good.

So your presence online is growing — which does not yet mean customers will find you easily, especially in a crowded field. This is where advertising comes in.

Google Ads is a genuinely clever tool. With it you can win a place among the first results. It also lets you target the ads, set the starting budget and decide where they run — all with messages written for the audience you want.

The platform also estimates how many clicks your ads will get, which tells you something about your future customers, based on exactly what they searched for. Getting to know Google Ads.

What Manáry brings to your growth

In digital marketing there are two well-known approaches you have probably heard of: SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and SEM (Search Engine Marketing). The second is closely tied to Google Ads, which we covered just above, and to Facebook Business, which has an advertising side of its own (Facebook Ads).

Through that approach your site can be shown first to someone searching for a company in your field. SEO, by contrast, is the unpaid — organic — way of putting your site on Google's radar.

At Manáry Digital, through a blogstrategy lined up with keyword research, your business becomes better known, so to speak. The idea is to rank the site so it appears near the top of the search pages, reaching more people and widening the pool of prospective customers.

The appealing part is that it costs nothing to appear, unlike paid traffic, where you pay for the top spot. A blog is one SEO tactic among several — and one swallow does not make a summer. The content on the site, its layout and the tools built into it all have to work together. Only then does the site meet what Google's crawlers expect and rank better. Which is a good reason to have someone who knows the subject on your side.
